What GEO is — and isn't

GEO is the practice of getting your brand mentioned, cited, or recommended in AI-generated answers. It is not the same as SEO. SEO optimizes for rank in a list of links. GEO optimizes for being the one named in a single answer. The mechanics overlap (structured content, authority, freshness) but the scoring is entirely different.

The 7-step GEO loop

1. Ingest sources

Crawl your site and competitor sites. Classify pages by intent and archetype.

2. Map the prompt universe

Generate the set of buyer-relevant prompts AI assistants produce for your category.

3. Track presence

Run prompts weekly across ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity. Parse mentions and citations.

4. Rank opportunities

Score gaps by intent weight, competitive position, and revenue proximity.

5. Brief + generate

Convert each opportunity into a grounded brief, then a source-cited draft.

6. Review + publish

Editorial review + audit trail. Then ship via your destination connector.

7. Re-measure

Watch the next visibility pass. Did the published asset move presence? Iterate.

What earns AI mentions

Specific, source-backed claims. Comparison and decision-stage pages. Clean schema (Article, FAQPage, ComparisonPage, HowTo where applicable). Real first-party data and case studies. Pages that answer the prompt directly instead of burying the answer under a 500-word intro.
